As a BioShock fan, Dowling was stoked to see what they were doing - it had been three years of silence since the first game came out. Dowling had just started at Irrational, signing up as a level designer a month before BioShock Infinite’s big reveal. None of the major details could be overturned anymore.įor Forrest Dowling, the timing couldn’t have been better. It was that they now had to stick with the details they’d announced. What was nice about this announcement wasn’t just that the developers could finally be open about what they were doing. Guarding her tower prison was a flying robotic hulk called the Songbird, who would make for a good mascot (and merchandising opportunity) in lieu of those Big Daddies. It would star the former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to rescue a raven-haired girl named Elizabeth. BioShock Infinite was set in Columbia, a city in the sky devoted to the celebration of American exceptionalism, during July 1912. After the trailer, director Ken Levine gave the press a basic outline of the game. The video opened with a delightful fakeout, zooming in on the silhouette of a familiar-looking underwater city before pulling back to reveal that the camera was actually inside of a fish tank. On August 12, 2010, at a press event in the swanky Plaza Hotel near Central Park in New York City, journalists gathered to watch the trailer for the next BioShock game. In the book, he dives into how a number of high profile game studios fell apart - and below, we have an excerpt covering some of the challenges BioShock Infinite studio Irrational Games went through when making the game. note: Out May 11, Press Reset: Ruin and Recovery in the Video Game Industry is author Jason Schreier’s second book investigating the inner workings of the video game industry. So not being a fanboy nor hater i have to say Bioshock Infinite is pretty average game with tremendous hype, I'm glad i got my copy free because otherwise i would be really really angry at myself for wasting money. There is also that unpleasant fact that this game embrace only checkpoint saves. Story and characters are mix up of several clichés with several ups and downs and for once finally useful sidekick on the contrary enemy AI is quite poor and you will see big number of enemies stucked in some obstacle. Also difficulty is pretty low i cannot even imagine how easier the game could get on lower difficulties. Next thing is horrible collision zones, at first it was not a big deal but it became more and more annoying. Lets see first thing is graphics, well this is such a clever ruse, all that bloom, fog and light shafts are well placed to cover poor models and textures in general(and I am not a person who praise graphics but this simply couldn't be overlooked). Lets see first thing is graphics, well this is such a clever ruse, all I really don't understand why are people so overwhelmed by this game. I really don't understand why are people so overwhelmed by this game. ![]() Keep waiting boys and girls, a true 10/10 game will get made eventually. It happened also with Skyrim, which simply was also not very good. I understand the desire of users to praose any game to the heavens. Doesn't Ken Levine understand the word subtlety? Bioware Infinite is definitely a game to be enjoyed when the price comes down. While the anti-American Exceptionism is fairly amusing is is also over-played. It's an incoherent mess that will have you wondering what the team at Irrational Games have been smoking for the last FIVE YEARS. The game finally exposes its true weaknesses, after many great moments when the plot falls to pieces at the end with one of the most head-scratching (in a negative sense) and RIDICULOUS conclusions you will ever see in a game. ![]() The game is also far too linear and NARROW in terms of both player progress and narrative. Wait till the hype blows over and get it when it hits its true value of around $20. Good though it is, this is a game to wait for. It is far too short and the shooting/exploring elements are far too limited, a kind of theatrical filler between the numerous set-pieces of this scenic railroad. Yet finally this game does not stand up as a product that is worth $60. Likewise the main characters are sublime. The city of Columbia was built with passion and care. Infinite has wonderful ambience and atmosphere. It is also overated, over-hyped and someone less than the coming-of-the-Messiah it pretends to be. Infinite Bioshoke Infinite is a good game.
